The new Deputy Police Chief will have a unique opportunity to learn about the Department from the current Chief of Police, George Carpenter, who has more than 20 years of experience serving as a permanent and interim Chief of several well-respected agencies. Over the last two years, Chief Carpenter has helped lead and guide the Department with an emphasis on obtaining accreditation, providing staff development and training, acquiring necessary equipment, implementing best practices, and building positive relations with the community and external stakeholders. The new Deputy Chief will be given strong consideration for promotion upon the Chief’s retirement based completely on merit, experience, abilities, education, and fit, although such retirement is not anticipated or planned.
