The District 115 Director of School Security shall carry out the essential performance responsibilities listed below, all subject to applicable student records and mental health confidentiality laws.

  • Serve as the lead member of a school’s security and safety team, responsible for the planning, implementation and review of all emergency management training and drills for District 115, and to provide ongoing recommendations to the administration for increased safety and security protocols/procedures. 
  • Work collaboratively and maintain positive relationships  with the students, community members,  school administrators, staff, Security Officers, Campus Monitors, Yorkville Police Department, and Kendall County Sheriff’s Office to resolve issues related to security and safety.
  • Cooperate with law enforcement agencies, designated first responders,and staff in the identification, deterrence, mitigation, and prosecution of subjects that affect the security and safety of students, staff, and visitors on the school campus.
  • Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations thoroughly as necessary or when assigned.  Remain available and cooperate with local law enforcement as directed.
  • Handle complaints filed by students, staff, or others in a professional and timely manner or report the information to administration as directed.  
  • Remain knowledgeable of current processes and procedures pertinent to the District 115 School Safety, Security, and Training Program through continued education, seminars, and training; this includes ensuring the Security Officers remain current as well. 
  • Provide oversight, guidance and expectations to properly secure and maintain all equipment assigned, including firearms, ammunition, body armor and communications equipment.
  • Respond as directed to work during emergencies, including working extended duty hours over weekends and holidays, or during periods of severe or inclement weather.
  • At all times,the School Security Supervisor will be required to maintain confidentiality, and ensure the Security Officers adhere to these expectations; the sharing of information outside the designated supervisory chain is prohibited. This includes specifically but without limitation compliance with applicable student records and mental health confidentiality laws.
  • Successfully complete ongoing training, weapon inspection, and firearm qualification on at least an annual basis, and ensure the compliance of the Security Officers in each of these areas.  
  • Ensure that all safety and security personnel maintain and keep current all certifications required by the District, including but not limited to firearms qualification (i.e., a qualified retired law enforcement officer or qualified law enforcement officer).
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
