The City of Naperville’s Police Department seeks a full-time civilian Police Service Officer to staff the front lobby service desk and perform various tasks for the Police Department, including handling reports (in person and over the phone), investigating non-in-progress criminal incidents, fingerprinting, follow-up phone calls and interviews, handling/submitting evidence, greeting and assisting the public, and other duties as assigned. The Police Service Officers may assist in the future Real Time Information Center (RTIC). This is a full-time position; exact days and schedule are to be determined, and will be between the hours of 8am – 6pm.

This position will complete criminal and non-criminal reports and walk-in accident reports, assist facility customers (e.g. deliveries, community groups, tours, training classes, etc.), answer and forward phones calls at the front desk, and enforce applicable laws accordingly (local ordinance violations, traffic citations, complaints/warrants, etc.). The position is also expected to collect data from various databases and information systems to conduct research, as well as preliminary and follow-up investigations.
High school diploma and a minimum of three years of experience in law enforcement, investigations or a related capacity are required. Special consideration will be given to those applicants with law enforcement experience and education. An Associate’s degree in a related field is preferred. All candidates must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license and will be required to successfully pass a polygraph test as well as a post-offer drug screen. Top candidates will have knowledge of police practices and services, including Illinois criminal and traffic laws. Strong communication skills with an emphasis on exemplary customer service are required.
