The Village of Montgomery, a diverse and growing community, seeks experienced public safety leaders with strong communication skills to serve as the community’s next Chief of Police. The current Chief will be retiring after eight years in the role. Quietly nestled along both banks of the Fox River in Kane and Kendall counties, just south of Aurora and 40 miles west of Chicago, residents enjoy convenient access to dining, shopping, and year-round recreation, making Montgomery an ideal place to live and work.
The Village of Montgomery prides itself on providing professional, high-quality and responsive municipal services with a strong emphasis on safety and customer service. Including the Chief of Police, the Montgomery Police Department is staffed by 35 sworn officers representing the Patrol and Investigations divisions, four Community Service Officers, and seven full- and part-time non-sworn civilian support personnel. Patrol Officers and Sergeants are represented by the Metropolitan Alliance of Police (MAP). E911 communications and dispatching are provided by KenCom (Kendall County).

Successful candidates will possess certification as a Police Officer by the Illinois Local Government Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Public Administration, or related fields. A Master’s Degree is strongly preferred. Command leadership training such as the F.B.I. National Academy, Northwestern University Center for Public Safety’s Executive Management Program and School of Police Staff and Command, Southern Police Institute Command training or similar programs are highly desirable.
The salary range for this position is $139,906 - $195,868. Starting salary is dependent on qualifications, plus an excellent benefits package. The Chief of Police is appointed by the Village President, with the advice and consent of the Village Board, and reports to the Village Administrator.
